Colleges Fight Back in Music File Sharing Cases

Boston College and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have moved to quash subpoenas seeking the names of students suspected of Internet music piracy, saying they're illegal because they weren't properly filed.

The schools said the subpoenas, issued by the Recording Industry Association of America, didn't allow for adequate time to notify the students, as mandated by the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act.

I think anyt music fan should fight back on music file sharing. I think paying for over priced tickets and also over priced merchandise at a show or concert is enough for a band, although the record company or the band itself has to pay for promotion and recording and what not..but that isn't our problems. When napster first came out was great, to have a program to listen to a song and not have to go to a store and pay 18 or even more for a cd, in fact pay for a cd that we may not even like. I think music programs let us listen to a cd and let us choose if we like it or not, but i think music companies hate the fact that those type of programs give us that option. I think the music industry is selfish and incorrect. Why should we pay 19 dollars for a cd that might be crap? or a band we never heard of? WWhy should file sharing be wrong? It's the 21st century, i dont think anyone can stop technology, let alone music industries.

Please U.S keep file sharing perfectly legal, Because If you don't have fle sharing, people are gonna loose interest in the Internet and Internet companies will loose members and the internet will loose money, So please.. Keep file sharing legal, It would mean soo much to a 15 year old computer programmer.

I believe file-sharing should be legal, but I understand that there are people with different view- people who think file sharing infringes on the rights of media companies, and thus causes them to lose money. Allow me to put this in perspective, though: when someone is arrested for merely downloading pirated files, that is very VERY wrong. People download what is considered "pirated media" everyday, which means they are susceptible for being arrested for committing a crime they aren't aware of. That person is not the distributor, so why should they be punished? They're merely innocent people caught in the crossfire between media companies and internet piraters. If we're going to try and stop file-sharing, then we should do things the smart way, and attack the problem at its source instead of trying to cut a few of its thousands of ties.
Now on to why file-sharing SHOULD be legal! Why should it be legal? Because technically no one is doing anything wrong. The internet has very few laws, especially when it comes to such things as pornography, spam, and of course, file-sharing. Also, many have claimed that they have stopped downloading files from file-sharing sites due to poor quality, and have decided to either just go out and buy the movie, or rent it. Speaking of renting movies, isn't it almost the same thing as file-sharing? Uh-oh! LOOPHOLE!

That's all I really have to say...for now. I would like to say, that if I a 14 year-old can figure at least a little bit of this issue out, then I'm sure my elders can too. :)

IT SHOULD BE LEGAL !!!!!!!!!!! YEAH

yo, it's me again (the 14-year-old guitar player dude that agrees with file sharing)

I use LimeWire if I want to check out a band, get just one or two songs, or if I'm broke. If I really like a band and have a good feeling about their music, and if I have cash, I'll still buy their CDs because then I can play it in the car (w00t w00t, car tunes)

Yall People caint spell.... and I Think that you need some help because It is messsed up that yall are puting info up there and yall have no Idea what yall are talkin bout
