Rape Nuts: Kobe Bryant's Trial Will Showcase Our Mixed-Up Rape Laws
Wednesday, July 30, 2003 at 1:58PM Slate's Dahlia Lithwick just published this interesting examination of the history and current status of our rape laws, using the Kobe Bryant case as a springboard. Slate has it all here. (link via How Appealing)

kobe bryant spoof
If no means no even after penetration as per the Illinois law, at what point can a perpetrator invoke the defense of diminished capacity. Opioid endorphins are, after no less powerful intoxicants simply because they are enogenous. If Rape is, after an intentional crime. Perhaps they should codify the new offense of negligent rape, even accidental rape. At some point the hairs being split are an exercise in absurdity. This is a perfect case for personal responsibility to take over. Absent abusive or violent action, what is an individual's part? When did sex become defined, codified and cemented into the Revised Statutes Annotated?
You obviously have made up your mind without seeing or hearing out the entire case, and you will probably not have an open mind enough to believe what is put in your face afterwards when everything is said and done, but let me at least inform you with the case that has been presented by the media. Let me help your misinformed mind with what seems to be the story:
She was allegedly "invited" into his room after giving him a "tour" of the hotel. They flirted and when they went into the room, closed the door, they had sex.She came out a few minutes later, and it is quoted that other workers at the hotel said she was in a daze, as if she had just been through a horrible ordeal. Twelve hours later she went in and reported the alledged rape, had a physical exam, and the state attourney later that week deemed the evidence as enough to make a case against Bryant, who had at first denied having sex with her, then went back and admitted at least "adultery", which is a bad enough, especially for a man who has young children, and an image to uphold. As to whether he raped her or not, do you think that someone such as Kobe Bryant is incapable or doing something like this, and a 19 year-old female is capable of a calculating plan of "lurring Kobe in" and having sex, just to turn around, and sue him later for rape, and (money) which she has said she will not do, and has gained a media spot light that she obviously seems to not want? Would you like to be known forever as the woman who was allegedly raped by Kobe Bryant, or as a whore or lying slut or mentally unstable "prick tease" like she has been called? Would you like your life turned into everyone else's opinions and used as an example in the future for rape cases to follow?I thought that Kobe Bryant was a married family man with an image to uphold, why would he have sex with anyone else but his wife, and especially, why would this (ordinary) girl have a chance with him at all? She obviously must have super sex powers or something, that horrible slut of a woman!!! She is evil and Kobe is good. She is white, he is black, she is female, he is male, she is an ordinary girl with alledged mental problems, he is a superstar basketball player not allowed to have any problems lest the media jump all over him, she lost a boyfriend, he lost a basketball championship, she od'd on pills, he supposedly overdosed on drugs a couple months back, she is emotionally unstable, he cried on national tv when he lost the series...do we not forget that they are both human beings that live different lives that have both been opened like wounds by the media and people like you, all you people seem to do is speak out your mind without caring of the consequenses, you have no idea what it is like, and never will. I bet you agree with that radio shock host as well. I bet he would love it if someone went on national tv and showed everyone the police report for him beating and threatening his then wife.It seems that she already has enough enemies, people calling her and threatening to kill her, I guess she had no right to come forward, and should have let it all go. Maybe he didn't rape her, maybe he did, but at least in this country, people are allowed to come forward and accuse, and the perpetrators are allowed to defend themselves. And let me tell you, they don't need blumbering idiots like yourself to do it for them (you just make him look bad anyway you illiterate kid)Anyway, in reply to stephen, do you think the illinois law helps or hinders women in the long run in rape cases?Woo
RAPE IS ABOUT POWER AND VIOLENCE, N O T ABOUT WHETHER YOU'RE WIFE LOOKS GOOD OR NOT - THE YORKSHIRE RIPPER (WHO RAPED AND KILLED MANY WOMEN) LOOKED PERFECTLY RESPECTABLE, WAS MARRIED, AND HAD KIDS.
You are at the very least an idiot.Check out this website page: http://www.rapecrisis.co.uk/myths_facts.htm
IN FUTURE, GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT BEFORE POSTING MESSAGES LIKE THE ONE ABOVE - OR, EVEN BETTER, DON'T POST MESSAGES AT ALL.
In case any cretins are wondering or making moronic assumptions, no I do not work for the Rape Crisis Federation (it is useful and has done a lot of research before posting information on it's website, but unfortunately it is sexist so I never would work for it) and I am male.
My opinion is Kobe is a rich succsessful guy, and some gold digger is out there to destroy his life, for only money. No matter what we'll never no what really happened that day, im sure that girl came on to him, and of course a man is not gonna turn down something a tramp is willing to give. I seen kobe play in pheonix and he seemed really stessed, i think all these evil people need to leave him alone, and quit trying to destroy him. Kobe is my idol since the day he stepped on the court, im a young girl and im so cofused with this trial, this is not necessary, and that tramp needs to go somewhere else and destroy somebody else's life.
