California High Court Hears Cases on Parental Rights of Gays

Several judges of the California Supreme Court appeared sympathetic today to arguments that gays and lesbians who rear their partners' children as their own without adopting them should have parental rights and obligations.

In a lengthy hearing in San Francisco, the state high court considered three cases involving disputes over children between estranged lesbian couples.

Without clearly indicating how they will vote on the cases, the justices observed repeatedly that official state policy favors two parent families.

Details here from the Los Angeles Times.
