Mainstays is a popular furniture brand, and many Americans have some sort of furniture piece from the brand in their homes. Unfortunately, a voluntary recall has just been issued for the four-drawer chests from Ameriwood Home amid concerns “about their stability and entrapment hazards.” According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the chests “are unstable if not anchored to the wall, posing serious tip-over and entrapment hazards that can result in death or injuries to children.”

Unfortunately, a voluntary recall has just been issued for the four-drawer chests from Ameriwood Home amid concerns “about their stability and entrapment hazards.” According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the chests “are unstable if not anchored to the wall, posing serious tip-over and entrapment hazards that can result in death or injuries to children.”
So far an estimated 1.6 million “units of the chests of drawers are being pulled from sale at Walmart stores, online and other retailers nationwide,” according to the recall notice. When announcing the recall, the CPSC issued the following statement:
“The chests do not comply with the performance requirements of the U.S. voluntary industry standard.”
Because of the danger associated with the unstable products, consumers are being advised to stop using the recalled chests immediately if it’s not “properly anchored to the wall.” Also, it should be removed from any area “where a child might have access to it.”
So far one injury report has been received by the CPSC. In that instance, the recalled chest of drawers “tipped over onto a 4-year-old.”
