Recall Alert! The frozen chicken in your freezer might contain plastic. That’s why Foster Farms has issued a massive recall of nearly “131,880 pounds of frozen, ready-to-eat breaded chicken patty products” because they might “be contaminated with foreign materials, specifically plastic,” according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service.

Not all the patties are being recalled, however. In fact, only patties that were produced on February 15, 2017, are being recalled, specifically the following product:

  • 5-lb. bags containing 20 pieces of “FOSTER FARMS Chicken Patties BREADED CHICKEN BREAST PATTIES WITH RIB MEAT” with Best By date of 02/15/18.

But how can consumers know for sure if they do or do not have a bag of these recalled patties? Well, all the recalled patties have “the establishment number “P-33901” inside the USDA mark of inspection,” and were only shipped to “distribution centers in Utah, Alaska, Arizona, California, and Washington.”

Wondering how the problem was discovered in the first place? Apparently, there were three customer complaints about “foreign materials ending up in their chicken patties on March 22, April 3, and April 15, 2017.” According to the USDA, “the foreign materials were pieces of clear, soft plastic that came from the Foster Farms facility packaging materials.”

Fortunately, there haven’t been any reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these patties. However, as with many recalls, if anyone is concerned about an illness or injury, they should contact their healthcare provider. For now, consumers who do actually have these patties in their freezer are begging urged to toss them or return the to the place of purchase for a refund. All questions about the recall can be directed to Consumer Affairs at 800-338-8051.
