Unsafe Liquid Plumr Bottles Recalled

The Clorox Company has recalled 4.5 bottles of Liquid Plumr whose caps are not child-proof. The recall was announced July 14. The bottles are easily opened by children, who would then have access to the highly caustic and toxic substance.

Included in the recall are the products Liquid Plumr Pro-Strength Foaming Clog Fighter, Liquid Plumr Pro-Strength Urgent Clear and Liquid Plumr Industrial Strength Urgent Clear. The recalled products are 17-ounce bottles that are approximately 9 inches tall. According to the webpage liquidplumr.com, the recall affects bottles produced on or before March 21, 2016.

So far no injuries have been reported, but reports of injury can be made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. The CPSC’s webpage dedicated to the recall reports that the products pose “a risk of chemical burns and irritation to the skin and eyes” and that the recalled products “contain sodium hydroxide which is required by the Poison Prevention Packaging Act to be sealed with child-resistant packaging.”

Clorox has a Liquid Plumr call center. The toll-free number is 855-490-0705 from 9 a.m. To 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday.

The damage caused by drain cleaner can be severe, even from inhaling the product. Injuries can include loss of vision in cases of contact with the eyes, severe abdominal, throat and mouth pain; breathing difficulty, severe tissue damage and vomiting.
