WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — A federal judge sentenced an attorney to up to five years in prison Friday for his conviction on conspiracy charges.
In February 2004, a jury found Poughkeepsie criminal lawyer Donald Roth guilty of trying to convince an informant in a drug case to lie to federal authorities so his clients wouldn’t be prosecuted.
Defense attorney David Lewis asked U.S. District Judge Stephen Robinson to sentence Roth to probation because his punishment will be no longer being able to practice law. Instead, Robinson imposed the maximum penalty, saying Roth’s offense “is particularly troubling to me because it goes to the credibility of the criminal justice system.”
