Citigroup’s New Hires to Take Long Route to Law Department

Some new in-house lawyers at Citigroup Global Wealth Management will graduate from law school and take a two-year detour from the law department. The company has launched a pioneering recruitment program, hiring law students who will spend part of the summer at one of three law firms, then continue at that firm for two years after graduation. Each side hopes to gain something from the arrangement: The firms want stronger ties with client Citigroup, while Citigroup needs a pipeline of trained junior lawyers.
