Ford Recalls 51K Transit Wagons

— February 27, 2016

It appears that 2015 may lose its place in history as the year of the recall. As NHTSA continually adjusts its estimates of the numbers of vehicles to be recalled over the Takata airbag crisis, other recall issues are emerging, too. In this one, Ford recalls 51K transit wagons due to problems with the rear seat belts potentially not latching properly.

The affected vehicles are all in North America and are 2015 – 206 model years. Most of the transit wagons are found in the U.S., but there are 699 in Mexico and 1,781 in Canada. According to Ford, placing heavy objects on the rear seat belt buckles can damage them, causing them to not latch.

This puts passengers in danger of injury or death if the seat belts don’t latch. To date, Ford hasn’t received reports of any accidents or injuries caused by the defective rear seat belts.

Ford will contact owners of the affected transit wagons and Ford dealers will perform repairs or replacements at no cost to the vehicle owners.
