FDA Took Years To Process Topamax Birth Defect Data

It wasn’t until March of 2011 that the FDA issued a warning that linked Topamax with cleft palate and cleft lip birth defects.  But back in July of 2008, a study linked the drug to those very defects: For the study, researchers examined women who became pregnant while taking topiramate either on its own or along

DePuy Hip Replacement Lawsuits Are Going To Be Big

I spent several hours last week reviewing the evidence surrounding the DePuy ASR and ASR XL hip recall, and I’ve come to the conclusion that these are going to be great lawsuits from a damages perspective. Some people who received recalled DePuy hip replacements have had to undergo multiple hip replacement surgeries.  The medical bills

Site Redesign At My Reglan Lawyer Blog

My Reglan Lawyer blog, Find The Right Reglan Lawyer, got overhauled this weekend.  Because the statute of limitations for many (perhaps even most) Reglan lawsuits will be up in February, I’m paying some extra attention to the site this month and next.  If you’re looking for documents from Reglan lawsuits (including expert witness reports), you

Interesting Fact About Paxil Birth Defect Lawsuits

There have been quite a few lawsuits over birth defects in children whose mothers took Paxil during pregnancy.  The birth defects have been quite severe, including such rare heart problems as Tricuspid Valve Stenosis. What’s interesting is that Paxil only came on the market in 1992.  That was exactly 18 years ago.  In most (if

Johnson & Johnson Cited For a THIRD Time

Not sure what’s going on at J&J, but clearly the company is having some quality control issues. The facility in Lancaster, Pa., is the third Johnson & Johnson plant to be flagged this year by the Food and Drug Administration for serious manufacturing defects — an unusual number for a single company. The Prempro Video Wyeth Doesn’t Want You To See

Apparently, Wyeth is asking a federal judge to order attorneys to remove this video from YouTube.  After watching the video, I can see why Wyeth has its knickers in a twist:

Kudos to the attorneys who produced this video.  It’s top-notch and not cheesy at all.  The only revision I’d make to it would be to put the peoples’ names at the bottom of the screen, and not at the very beginning.  But this is definitely a video the attorneys should be proud of.

My favorite part was when the self-described conservative jury foreman called Wyeth “despicable.”  Conservative jurors are not a death knell for plaintiffs – you just have to speak their language.  Note how he talked about how Wyeth abandoned their moral obligations.

Are 6,000 Seroquel trials on the way?

If so, I foresee a lot of money being spent by both sides to retain local counsel…

Nov. 19 (Bloomberg) — AstraZeneca Plc may face as many 6,000 trials of lawsuits claiming its antipsychotic drug Seroquel causes diabetes after a judge said she will recommend sending the cases back to their home courts.

U.S. District Judge Anne Conway in Orlando, Florida, who is overseeing pre-trial proceedings in federal Seroquel litigation, said yesterday she’ll urge a panel of judges to return all of the cases to courts across the U.S. for possible trials.

Bayer Targets Sexually Active Girls For Popular Birth Control Pill Yaz

That’s the headline that I thought of after reading the oh-so-biased headline in the article below about lawsuits over the Yaz birth control pill.

A Newark, Calif., woman and her husband sued drugmaker Bayer in federal court in San Francisco on Monday, saying she suffered a debilitating stroke after taking the company’s popular birth control pill Yaz for a month.

Her lawyer, Michael Danko, says he and co-counsel firm Girard Gibbs filed a similar suit last week and are preparing to file more. Hundreds of such suits filed around the country by Danko and other lawyers in the past month or so are just "the tip of the iceberg," triggered by the publication of two recent studies published in the BMJ, a British medical journal, added Danko, of The Danko Law Firm in San Mateo, Calif.

Why not say “Plaintiffs lawyers help girls injured by popular birth control pill,” or “Bayer’s popular birth control pill the subject of lawsuits,” or something else besides “evil plaintiffs lawyers TARGET big, helpful corporation.”
