A new toy recall may be on the horizon in New York that should have parents double-checking their Christmas shopping lists. It turns out the New York Department of State’s Division of Consumer Protection (DCP) is urging the federal government to issue a recall for a Fashion Doll toy. According to state officials, the doll is available at stores throughout New York and is considered dangerous because it contains more than “246 times the federally allowable limit of the chemical phthalate Di(2-Ethylhexyl), also known as DEHP.” It’s important to note that the legal federal limit of DEHP is 0.10%, but the dolls contain 24.60% of DEHP.

When commenting on the matter, New York State Secretary of State Rossana Rosado said:

During this holiday shopping season, we need to make sure the toys we are buying our children are safe. This toy poses an unacceptable risk to our kids and should not be on store shelves. I urge Dollar Tree to voluntarily pull the item from its shelves and call on the federal government to issue a recall of this product immediately.”

For now, officials are urging consumers who have the Fashion Doll in their homes to throw it away or “set it aside in a safe area and await any future recall instructions.” While there isn’t talk of a refund component yet, there may be one offered in the future.
