Smokeless Tobacco aka Chew or Dip Recalled for Metal Objects

— February 1, 2017

It must be the day for news about potentially harmful things one can put in one’s mouth. First, it was teething products, now it’s smokeless tobacco. A voluntary recall hit the news regarding metal objects, some of them sharp, found in cans and pouches of dip. U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company (USSTC) issued the recall yesterday, based on eight customer complaints of metal contaminated chew. Fortunately, none of the customers were injured. Apparently, the pieces reported thus far were visible to customers.

U.S. Smokeless Tobacco Company (USSTC) issued the recall yesterday, based on eight customer complaints of metal contaminated chew. Fortunately, none of the customers were injured. Apparently, the pieces reported thus far were visible to customers.

The complaints of contaminated smokeless tobacco came from Ohio, Wisconsin, North Carolina, Tennessee, Indiana and Texas. The products being recalled came from USSTC’s plant in Franklin Park, Illinois. The products were nationally distributed.

USSTC is asking customers who have smokeless tobacco products on the following list to avoid using or even opening the product. Rather, USSTC would like customers to call them at 1-866-201-9136 to arrange for a return and full refund.
