Normally, a small portion of nuts is a good snack; they provide protein and healthy fats. However, this is not the case. These Trader Joe’s raw cashew pieces may contain Salmonella, too.


Normally, a small portion of nuts is a good snack; they provide protein and healthy fats. However, this is not the case. These Trader Joe’s raw cashew pieces may contain Salmonella, too.

A voluntary recall has been issued by one of Trader Joe’s suppliers, Heritage International (USA) in Compton, California. The recall only covers one particular lot of Trader Joe’s Raw Cashew Pieces. If you have cashews from this lot, do not eat them!

How do you know if you have the potentially Salmonella contaminated cashews? Check out the package. The recalled cashews are packaged in a 16-ounce, clear plastic, non-resealable container. They are marked with:

“BEST BEFORE 07.17.2016TF4” and bear a barcode number of 00505154.

The affected lot was sent to Trader Joe’s in the following states only:

  • Connecticut
  • Delaware
  • Georgia
  • Idaho
  • Illinois
  • Indiana
  • Iowa
  • Kansas
  • Kentucky
  • Maine
  • Maryland
  • Massachusetts
  • Michigan
  • Minnesota
  • Missouri

  • New Jersey
  • New York
  • North Carolina
  • Ohio
  • Oregon
  • Pennsylvania

  • South Carolina
  • Tennessee
  • Vermont

No illnesses connected to these potentially Salmonella contaminated cashews have been reported as of this writing.
