“The government’s interpretation … would send a seismic shock through out immigration detention system and society, straining our already overcrowded detention infrastructure, incarcerating millions, separating families, and disrupting communities,” the judge said. “If Congress meant to achieve such a radical break from the past, it would not have done so in such an indirect and ambiguous way.”
The lawsuit also cites comments made by Gov. Sherrill, a Democrat, who previously said that “we’re not going to tolerate masked, roving militias pretending to be well-trained law enforcement agents.” A related press release clarified that the state was therefore “banning ICE agents from wearing masks, and protecting residents’ privacy from federal overreach.”
“Children’s health depends on vaccine recommendations based on rigorous, transparent science,” American Academy of Pediatrics President Andrew D. Racine said in a January press release announcing the lawsuit. “Unfortunately, recent decisions by federal officials have abandoned this standard, causing unnecessary confusion for families, compromising access to lifesaving vaccines and weakening community protection.”
“Arizona acted correctly in refusing this request, and today’s ruling vindicates that decision,” Fontes and Mayes said in a statement. “Our offices will continue to defend the privacy of Arizona voters against federal overreach.”
Mayes said that the lawsuit is little more than a request to the federal government that it follow its own rules and regulations.
“Once again, New York is facing devastating federal cuts for nothing more than political payback,” Hochul, a Democrat, said. “Ripping away money that goes toward critical safety upgrades on our roads is reckless and it is illegal.”
The plaintiffs in the claim include philosophy Professor Noelle McAfee, English and indigenous studies Professor Emilio Del Valle-Escalante, and economics Professor Caroline Fohlin. Notably, all three professors remain tenured faculty; though they were all arrested, none were convicted of any criminal charge.
“It is so common that it is now cliché that coffee drinks depend on the caffeine contained therein to provide them with the energy they need to get through the day,” the lawsuit says. “Accordingly, the amount of caffeine in a coffee blend affects a consumers’ purchasing decision.”
On Monday, JetBlue tried to back-track, calling its initial response incorrect and saying that “fares can change at any moment as seats are purchased or as inventory is adjusted based on demand.” The “social media reply was simply a mistake from an individual customer service crewmember.”
President Trump, along with his sons Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, filed the lawsuit in January, claiming that the Internal Revenue Service failed to protect his and the Trump Organization’s confidential tax information, which was leaked to the media by former IRS contractor Charles Littlejohn.
