Patient Gets Cussed Out By Doctor After Long Wait Time
Jessica Stipe posted a video to her Facebook page that has gotten a lot of attention –nearly 200,000 views just a day later. In the video, the “severely sick” Stipe is shown complaining to a physician about an urgent care’s long wait time. Doctor Peter Gollogly responds by screaming at her and kicking her out of the clinic.
On Monday, October 9th, Stipe entered the Gainesville After Hours clinic for a check-up after a full day of vomiting and pain which she attributed to symptoms of pneumonia. She had made an appointment for 6:30PM and had still not seen a physician at 7:45PM., so she wanted to get her money back and leave.
Stipe was in “severe pain and throwing up in a trash can” during the time she sat in wait. But, instead of taking her illness seriously, Stipe claims, “All they had me do was pee in a cup to see if I’m pregnant … ummm I know I’m not.” That’s when “I asked for my co-pay back so I could leave and go back home to bed and try to be seen elsewhere tomorrow because I’m just miserable that all I want is my bed.”
Gollogly entered the waiting room and “proceeded to cuss (her) out.” Stipes says, “My daughter recorded it because they were so rude. When he saw it was being recorded he snatched my baby’s phone and shoved her when she tried to get it back.”
The footage shows Stipe confronting the physician about the lengthy wait time. He continually speaks over her, making it difficult for Stipe to even be heard. The physician yells, “Are you kidding me? Do you know how many people…I got seven rooms back there!” And, continues, “We’ve already been working on you. We’ve got a urine test on you, I’ve seen you.” Stipe replies, “You came in and said I’m gonna check your pee,” to which Gollogly angrily cuts her off, tells her to go to another clinic or to the ER and compares wait times. She says she just wants to go home and get in her bed, and the doctor shouts “Get the hell out” followed by “Take your money and get the f— out of my office.” The woman complies, walking away with, “I did” and calling the doctor rude. Gollogly waves his hand and snaps, “See ya later.”
As Stipe and her daughter are exiting, Stipe comments she’s going to call the Better Business Bureau, to which her daughter is heard saying, “Mom, I’ve got it on tape, so it doesn’t matter.” The doctor turns toward the daughter, asks if he’s being recorded and attempts to take the phone. Still recording, the video concludes with Stipe threatening to report him to the police.
Most of the comments posted in response to the YouTube clip indicate the doctor did nothing wrong, and prospective patients should expect to wait at an urgent care. Many exclaim, “I love this Dr.” and “enough of people videoing things and wanting their fifteen minutes of fame.” The clinic has not commented on the ordeal.
