PlanToys Recalls Popular Baby Play Gyms Amid Strangulation Concerns

A new toy recall has been issued that parents should be made aware of. The recall pertains to PlanToys Baby Gyms, which have been recalled due to the concern that “babies can strangle on the side rope crossbars on the baby gyms.” The gyms are designed to be placed on the floor for babies to play. But how can parents tell if they purchased one of these recalled baby gyms for their children?

There are a number of things parents can look for, including the overall appearance of the gym. For example, the recalled gyms “are tan and have four legs with four different color balls in the middle that are connected by two ropes on the sides.” Additionally, the two mobiles “hanging from the top bar” are space-themed. Parents can also check the manufacturing date code “on the top corner joint connecting ball.According to the recall notice, the manufacturing date codes for the recalled toys are TH 080116 through TH 082916

The play gyms were “sold at specialty toy and baby product stores nationwide and online at Diapers.com, Target.com and other websites from September 2016 through May 2017 for about $50,” according to the recall notice. Parents who have the recalled play gym are being urged to remove it from the home “and contact PlanToys for a free replacement baby gym.” PlanToys can be contacted toll-free at 866-517-7526 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. PT Monday through Friday, or emailed at Michael@plantoysinc.com.
