Feel Good Friday: Trial Lawyers Care Saving Lives

— September 12, 2016

This particular Feel Good Friday is a special one. Even though the 15th anniversary of 9/11 was yesterday, something incredible was born from that tragedy that is still a force for good today. That something is the American Association for Justice’s (AAJ) Trial Lawyers Care (TLC) program. The original purpose of TLC was giving free legal help to 9/11 survivors. TLC hasn’t stopped helping better the communities in which its members work and live. This Feel Good Friday (on a Monday) is about Trial Lawyers Care saving lives by working to end distracted driving-related deaths.

First, I realize this is not Friday. Sorry to those of you who wish it was, but I’m afraid it’s actually Monday. Your writer literally had a pain in the neck on Friday that kept me from the keyboard. However, this particular Feel Good Friday is a special one.

Back in 2001, over 1,100 attorneys gave their time – without thought of compensation – to assist 9/11 survivors in the process of applying for the aid from the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund. All total, these attorneys offered the equivalent of 100 years of experience and service to help those who were suffering.

Even though the anniversary was yesterday, this is still timely news and a great example of lawyers doing good for their communities. The effort TLC is putting forth for the 15th anniversary of 9/11 is a great one: the organization wants to end distracted driving-related deaths by talking to teenagers and teaching them how such needless deaths can be prevented. I call that great work! And, it’s ongoing through the month.

A similar organization, End Distracted Driving (EndDD), has already helped almost 300,000 teenagers across the country through giving informative presentations to community groups and schools. AAJ/TLC and EndDD teamed up to put on even more school presentations and begin more life-saving conversations throughout the month of September.

If you’re a trial lawyer interested in joining this effort, you can do so by going to http://www.enddd.org/trial-lawyer-911-campaign and signing up to volunteer.

We’ve all seen the consequences (and horrible losses) distracted driving can cause. Hats off to those who work to prevent these avoidable tragedies!
