New Lawsuit Accuses Kathy Griffin of Invading Her Neighbor’s Privacy

— July 25, 2018

Kathy Griffin is in the news again, but not for her so-called comedic acts. This time she’s making headlines over a dispute with her neighbors, “KB Home CEO Jeffrey T. Mezger and his wife Sandra.” According to a lawsuit filed by the Mezger’s, Griffin and her boyfriend, Randy Bick, allegedly “made repeated and demonstrably unfounded complaints against the Mezgers, and spied on them.”

The suit was filed earlier this month on July 20 in Los Angeles Superior Court and claims that Griffin and Bick “moved in next to them in July 2016 and almost immediately began to lodge a series of noise complaints with the Bel Air Crest guard gate staff, later escalating their complaints to the HOA board and the Los Angeles Police Department.” According to the Mezger’s, Griffin and Bick filed complaints against them “virtually every time they, their family, or guests used the backyard pool area of their home.”

Additionally, according to the allegations stated in the suit, “Griffin and Bick undertook a campaign of secret electronic surveillance and recording almost immediately after taking up residence.” They used their iPhones and then later switched to an audio-video surveillance system to spy on and record the Mezger’s backyard. As a result, the suit claims that Bick and Griffin “illegally captured hundreds of hours of audio and video from the Mezgers’ backyard.” It also claims the Mezger’s only learned about the secret recordings in September 2017 “when Griffin and Bick leaked one of the recordings to the media.

Once leaked, the Huffington Post published the recording. In it, Jeffrey Mezger can be heard purportedly calling Griffin an “f–king bald dyke and a c-t.

Shortly after the recording aired, a spokesperson for KB Home told Huffington Post that Mezger “regrets losing his temper.” The statement added:

“Mr. Mezger regrets losing his temper over a supposed noise complaint involving his three young grandchildren in his swimming pool around 8 p.m. on Saturday, while they were being supervised by their mother and grandmother. He apologizes for the language he used, as it does not reflect who he is or what he believes.”

Despite the statement though, the Mezger’s claim in their suit that the relentless complaints and spying from Griffin and Bick made them feel as though they had to “constantly monitor their sound levels, and tiptoe around the yard for fear that even ordinary use of the property would trigger a complaint.” Additionally, the couple argues that when Bick and Griffin released the recording to the media, it damaged them “in their reputation, remuneration, employment and community standing, among other ways.”

The Mezger’s are seeking unspecified damages.
