One of the key arguments raised by the lawsuit relates to consistency: if individual states are permitted to institute their own immigration policies, it would be “nearly impossible” for many people to travel across state lines.

“Defendants’ automatic injunction issues whether or not the alien needs or seeks emergency relief, whether or not the court has jurisdiction over the alien’s claims, and no matter how frivolous the alien’s claims may be,” Justice Department attorneys argue. “And it does so in the immigration context, thus intruding on core Executive Branch powers.”
“We cannot stand idly by while this President continues to launch unprecedented, unlawful attacks on Massachusetts’ residents, institutions, and economy,” Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Campbell said.
In court documents, attorneys for Compass allege that Zillow has “sought to rely on anticompetitive tactics to protect its monopoly and revenues in violation of the antitrust laws.”
In his decision, U.S. District Judge William Alsup said that, even if Anthropic abided by the law in the training of its LLMs, it most likely ran afoul of copyright protections when it stored the plaintiffs’ works in a “central library.”
In its original complaint, filed in June 2022, the Federal Trade Commission accused Walmart of allowing scammers and other criminals to use wire services—including those offered by MoneyGram, Western Union, and Ria—to defraud American consumers out of hundreds of millions of dollars.
Newsom has promised to continue pushing back against the White House. “The fight doesn’t end here,” he said in response to the ruling. “The President is not a king and is not above the law.”
