Gun Rights Group Sue to Stop California’s New Firearms Excise Tax

“The State should recognize disabilities and trauma in the youth they serve and address those disabilities instead of ignoring them,” said Jack Derryberry, the legal director of Disability Rights Tennessee. “We have spent the last two years doing everything in our power to effect changes in these systems, without success.”
“Hungary took everything the plaintiffs owned, including possessions necessary to survive, such as shelter, clothing, and medicine,” said Sarah Harrington, an attorney representing the plaintiffs. “And the undisputed purpose of Hungary’s takings was to bring about the physical destruction of Jews in Hungary.”
“This case transcends football,” said Bill Carmody, an attorney for the plaintiffs.“It’s about justice. “It’s about telling the 32 team owners who collectively own all the big TV rights, the most popular content in the history of TV—that’s what they have,”
“We wanted complete accountability,” attorney Alex Arreaza told CNN. “People sit in prison and don’t have things to do. They get bored. We wanted to shut [Cruz] down completely. His story will be told by his victims—not by him.”
“The allegation is that [the plaintiff] gets on [the Swamp Fox] fine, and then gets off as a quadriplegic,” attorney Morgan Martin said. “It’s such a sad, sad day for that young man, who is just in horrible condition.”
Todd Yeary, an attorney for Harris, said that his client was forced to attend about 50 hearings before the case ever went to trial. Some proceedings were held online—but others required in-person attendance, even after Harris graduated high school and moved out-of-state to attend Spelman College in Georgia.
Louisiana’s legislation was likely designed to leverage the potential consequences of a legal challenge that the bill’s proponents would have been foolish not to expect.
“The Constitution protects everyone’s right to practice their religion free from discrimination,” an ACLU-DE attorney said, “yet Delaware’s law directly prevents Muslims, Orthodox Jews, and others who do not practice embalming from practicing their sacred funeral services.”
