Did You Buy Honest Co. Products? You Might Be Entitled to Compensation

— September 13, 2017

The Honest Co., Jessica Alba’s Health and Wellness company, has had a rough year. After battling class action lawsuits that alleged the company “engaged in unfair and deceptive practices related to its marketing, labeling, and advertising,” the Honest Co. has agreed to pay a $7 million settlement to customers in the United States who “purchased certain Honest diapering, cleaning, or personal care products.” Though the matter hasn’t been officially resolved in court, both sides of the aisle “agreed to settle the case in order to avoid the costs of continued litigation.”

For those who don’t know, an Honest Co. customer, Brad Buenasera, accused the company of “misleadingly marketing at least 41 items including bubble bath, children’s toothpaste, floor cleaners, laundry detergent, and soap.” According to the lawsuit, Buonasera asserted that many Honest Company products “were labeled natural, all natural, naturally derived, plant-based and no harsh chemicals, but actually contained a spectacular array of synthetic and toxic ingredients.” According to a report issued by Reuters, independent tests did indeed reveal that “the products contained synthetic and toxic ingredients.”

So how can you find out if you’re entitled to a portion of the settlement funds? Well, if you’re a resident of the U.S., and if you purchased and “did not return an Honest product between January 17, 2012, and July 10, 2017,” you can submit a claim form that entitles consumers to “$2.50 for each purchase of a product for up to 10 products without proof of purchase.” If you have proof of purchase, you’re “entitled to unlimited product compensation… for either your choice of U.S. dollars or a credit for a future purchase at honest.com.” October 23, 2017, is the deadline to submit of claim form.
