In addition to its recent Simple Truth dry roasted macadamia nut recall amid listeria concerns, Kroger Co. has now issued a widespread recall of “a certain food item because it could pose a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction in some consumers.

In a statement from the popular retailer, company officials said:

“People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products. Although milk is listed in the ingredient statement, milk is not included in the ‘Contains’ statement.”

So what products, exactly, were recalled? Well, so far it includes six-pack Kroger Dessert Cups – “Yellow Sponge Cake 6.5 oz. 6-pack, with the Consumer UPC 11110-18550.” The product is available in a variety of different stores, including “all stores operating under the names Kroger, Owen’s, Pay Less, Scott’s, Gerbes, Ruler Foods, Dillons, Baker’s, Food4Less and Jay C in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.”

If customers have this product, they’re being advised to return it to the store for a replacement or refund. As for the macadamia nut recall, it’s still in effect. For those who don’t know, Kroger recalled its Simple Truth Dry Roasted Macadamia Nuts “due to potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination.” The potential contamination is a big deal because Listeria can “cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.” Pregnant women are also particularly vulnerable to Listeria because it can “cause miscarriages and stillbirth.”

Fortunately, there have been no reports of illnesses related to the macadamia nut recall in place for Kroger, Bakers, Gerbes and Dillons stores in Ohio, southeast Indiana, northern Kentucky, Kansas, Nebraska and Missouri.

Those with further questions or concerns related to the recalls can contact the Kroger Co. at 800-576-4377.
