A former inmate at Clark County jail has filed a lawsuit against Southwest Washington County, claiming that its corrections employees are undertrained, negligent, and regularly engage in the use of excessive force. “The Records Rule has placed most records about county-held immigration detainees in an impenetrable black box, shielding them from public scrutiny,” the ACLU said in its lawsuit.
“The question every American should be asking is, ‘What are they hiding?’” Democracy Forward CEO Skye Perryman said in a statement. “DOGE must not be allowed to operate in the shadows without the transparency, oversight, and opportunity for public participation required of any federal department by law.”
“I have been on the bench for over four decades. I can’t remember another case where the question presented was as clear,” said U.S. District Judge John Coughenour.
