Class Action Status Sought In Lawsuit Against Louisiana’s Defense System
A lawsuit, which is seeking class action status, has been filed on behalf of the victims of a deadly bus crash that occurred in Baltimore last fall. It is seeking $10 million in damages, and alleges that the school bus driver that caused the accident was “wrongly cleared to work despite previous crashes and health problems.”
Earlier this year, a settlement was reached between the family of Kansas State Representative, Scott Schwab and the owner of the Schlitterbahn Water Park as a result of the tragic death of their 10-year-old son, Caleb Schwab. According to court documents, the family will receive nearly $20 million in settlement payments from the companies involved in the 10-year-old boy’s death on the Verrückt water slide, though at the time of the settlement agreement back in January, it was unclear how much each party would be required to pay. Now, more details have emerged, revealing that the Schwab family settlement might be the “largest settlement of its kind paid in a wrongful death case involving a minor in either Kansas or Missouri.”
FedEx has settled a series of lawsuits brought against it by disgruntled drivers to the tune of $224 million. The litigation, initiated by FedEx drivers from 19 states, claims the company had under-compensated its over-the-road employees by misclassifying them as independent contractors rather than full-time workers. Yet another lawsuit has been filed against Fox News, this time for gender discrimination. The lawsuit was filed by Jessica Golloher, a Fox Radio correspondent, who alleges that she was “fired from her job in recent weeks after reaching out to the company to complain about gender discrimination.” For those who don’t know, Fox News has been the subject of countless lawsuits alleging that women and minorities regularly face or have faced discrimination while working for the network.
