“Target’s CEO Brian Cornell and its Board of Directors did not oversee or disclose the obvious risks of Target’s 2023 LGBT-Pride Campaign and the ESG/DEI initiatives which it advanced, but they told investors that they did,” the lawsuit says.
“This unconstitutional action forces nearly 600,000 Venezuelans and their families currently living in the U.S. with TPS protection into the untenable position of potentially being forced to return to a country experiencing one of the worst humanitarian crises in the history of the Western hemisphere,” the plaintiffs said in a joint statement.
“If served, we will vigorously defend our admission practice,” a University of California spokesperson said in a statement. “We believe this to be a meritless suit.”
“Neither the President nor any executive branch agency has the power to unilaterally enact, amend, or repeal any statue. This is as true of a statute appropriating funds as it is any other statute,” the lawsuit alleges.
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, a Democrat and named defendant in the Department of Justice’s lawsuit, said that the state’s law is sound and has “been upheld by the courts time and time again.”
“The Passport Policy […] is motivated by impermissible animus,” ACLU attorney Jessie Rossman wrote in the lawsuit. “It cannot be justified under any level of judicial scrutiny, and it wrongly seeks to erase the reality that transgender, intersex, and nonbinary people exist today as they always have.”
“CFPB employees have been placed in questionable status as they have been directed not to work but they have not been formally placed on any authorized type of leave,” the National Treasury Employees Union said. “It is substantially like that these initial directives are a precursor to a purge of CFPB’s workforce, which is now prohibited from fulfilling the agency’s statutory mission.”
“The conduct of officials in Chicago and Illinois minimally enforcing—and oftentimes affirmatively thwarting—federal immigration laws over a period of years has resulted in countless criminals being released into Chicago who should have been held for immigration removal from the United States,” the lawsuit alleges.
“President Trump’s actions to dissolve USAID exceed presidential authority and usurp legislative authority conferred upon Congress by the Constitution, in violation of the separation of powers,” the lawsuit alleges.
“In the context of this case, disclosure of OSHA records to the leader of multiple companies with ongoing OSHA investigations presents clear risks both to workers and to the integrity of OSHA’s enforcement efforts,” the lawsuit says.
