TAMPA, FL — Steven M. Berman, a distinguished partner in Shumaker’s Litigation & Disputes Service Line and a long-time leader in the American Bankruptcy Institute (ABI), served as the Co-Chair of the ABI’s 50th Annual Alexander L. Paskay Memorial Bankruptcy Seminar—an educational program that focused on trending topics and challenges in bankruptcy law while also honoring the lifetime of service and achievements of the late Bankruptcy Judge Paskay.

The seminar featured timely discussions led by a group of well-known bankruptcy thought leaders and judges. The seminar kicked off with a panel entitled “AI-Powered Fee Examination in Bankruptcy: Ensuring Reasonableness via Technology,” which explored how AI-driven analytics can act as a value driver in bankruptcy matters.

“Artificial Intelligence has touched nearly every facet of the law, and bankruptcy is no exception,” said Steve. “This seminar, along with similar events hosted by the ABI, serves as a critical resource for professionals to learn how evolving technology can bring efficiency and value to their practice and how to best avoid pitfalls.”

Clients and colleagues alike turn to Steve when a bankruptcy case is not likely to settle. A seasoned trial lawyer, he is widely recognized for his solutions-oriented approach, which involves working closely with clients to first see the end result and then map out a plan to get there. He focuses his practice on business bankruptcy litigation, representing creditors, investors, distressed debt lenders, trustees, committees, and business entities litigating disputes in bankruptcy court.

A prominent leader within the Shumaker and the bankruptcy legal landscape, Steve serves as the Co-Chair of the firm’s Financial Institutions & Insurance Industry Sector and is a member of the ABI’s Servicemembers and Veterans Task Force, as well as the Pro Bono Committee within. He shares his legal acumen with a number of bankruptcy associations across the country and routinely volunteers to provide pro bono bankruptcy and insolvency counsel and training for U.S. Navy service members.

Steve’s continued involvement and leadership in ABI seminars reflects Shumaker’s dedication to providing clients with cutting-edge legal counsel that puts them in the best possible position.
