If you enjoy the occasional ham sandwich made with Land O’Frost ham, you may want to double check the package in your refrigerator. According to a new recall issued by Madisonville, Kentucky-based Land O’Frost Inc., nearly 4,944 pounds of its ham products have been recalled “because of incorrect package labeling, resulting in misbranding.”

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), “The front of the package is accurately labeled as Black Forest Ham, however, the back of the package is incorrectly labeled as Honey Smoked Turkey Breast.”

The company learned of the labeling error back on June 20 when a consumer notified it of the issue. From there, the company informed FSIS of the problem and the recall issued. At the moment the recall includes ham products produced on April 27, and they’re “labeled with a ‘Sell-By’ date of Aug. 10.” Additionally, all the recalled products have the “establishment number ‘EST. 500K’ printed inside the USDA mark of inspection on the label” and were “shipped to retail locations in Arizona, California, Oregon, Texas, and Washington.”

According to the recall notice, the specific product included in the recall are:

  • 1-lb. plastic gas-flushed resealable packages containing a single ham labeled “Land O’Frost PREMIUM Old World Style Black Forest Ham” with Lot 8117D and a sell-by date of August 10, 2018, on the label.

If you have one of the recalled products in your refrigerator or consumed some and are concerned about falling ill, contact your healthcare provider. Further questions and concerns can be directed to Dar Gautreaux, administrative assistant with Land O’Frost, by calling 800-762-9865.
