Contamination Scare Prompts Del Monte to Recall Canned Corn Products

Concerns over potential contamination prompted Del Monte to recall certain canned corn products. According to the notice, the recall includes more than “64,000 cases of ‘FIESTA CORN Seasoned with Red & Green Peppers.’” It turns out, the recalled corn may have been under-processed. When this happens, it may result in “potentially deadly contamination and illness.”


Concerns over potential contamination prompted Del Monte to recall certain canned corn products. According to the notice, the recall includes more than “64,000 cases of ‘FIESTA CORN Seasoned with Red & Green Peppers.’” It turns out, the recalled corn may have been under-processed. When this happens, it may result in “potentially deadly contamination and illness.”

It’s important to note, however, that not every can of corn is included in the recall. In fact, according to the notice, the products affected by the recall are “5.25-ounce (432g) cans with the following UPS number printed on the label: 24000 02770.” The recalled cans of corn also have the following ‘Best By” date stamped on the bottom of the cans:

  • Aug. 14, 2021
  • Aug. 15, 2021
  • Aug. 16, 2021
  • Sept. 3, 2021
  • Sept. 4, 2021
  • Sept. 5, 2021
  • Sept. 6, 2021
  • Sept. 22, 2021
  • Sept. 23, 2021

Fortunately, no illnesses have been reported. However, the product was shipped to retailers throughout 25 states and 12 international locations. According to the recall notice, these states and international locations include the following: Alaska, Alabama, California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, El Salvador, Haiti, Guyana, Uruguay, Aruba, Panama, Saint Lucia and Suriname.
