Fisher-Price Recalls 71,000 Inclined-Sleeper Accessories Amid Safety Concerns

— June 30, 2019

If you have an infant and use an inclined-sleeper, this latest recall is for you. Earlier this week, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission teamed up with Fisher-Price and issued a recall of 71,000 inclined-sleeper accessories for infant play yards. Why? Well, according to the recall notice, there has been an increased number of safety concerns about inclined-sleeper products since Fisher-Price recalled millions of Rock ‘n Play Sleepers back in April. Those sleepers were “linked to over 30 infant deaths in 10 years.”

The inclined-sleeper accessories affected by the recall are included with models of the Ultra-Lite Day & Night Play Yard. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities have been linked to the recalled inclined-sleeper accessories.

Unlike flat beds or cribs, inclined-sleepers “allow babies to sleep at an approximately 30-degree angle, which goes against advice from the American Academy of Pediatrics.” In addition to urging parents to avoid inclined-sleepers when putting their children to sleep, the organization also advises against the use of “car seats, strollers or other devices for sleep” because they can cause babies to “turn into an unsafe position and be suffocated or strangled when unable to move.”

For now, parents and caregivers should discontinue use of the recalled inclined-sleeper accessories and contact Fisher-Price for a refund. When commenting on the recall, Chuck Scothon, general manager at Fisher-Price said:

“With these actions, we want parents around the world to know that safety will always be a cornerstone of our mission, that we are committed to these values, and will continue to prioritize the health, safety, and well-being of the infants and preschoolers who utilize our products.”
