Physician Recognized Patient’s Allergy to Essure Device

— December 8, 2015

Today’s video is a double-edged sword. One edge of that blade, sadly, cuts through women’s flesh. However, the other edge cuts through the lies Bayer and the FDA are telling about the “permanent” birth control product, Essure. I’ll save the best for last, but the preview is that this physician recognized patient’s allergy to Essure.

The three women being interviewed have stories that been told by over 24,000 other women: they made the decision to have “permanent” birth control in the form of Essure and they ended up suffering. A lot.

The deeper I dig into this issue, the more horrifying it becomes. Today’s video points out something that I hadn’t heard yet. I did know that one of the components of Essure is nickel. I also know that many people have allergic reactions to nickel. My mother was one. She couldn’t wear glasses with nickel frames or else she’d break out in a burning rash.

Now imagine what would happen to a woman with such an allergy who got Essure implanted. Apparently Conceptus, Essure’s original manufacturer, did. In paperwork given to doctors, Conceptus stated:

Good news, right? Doing the right thing, yes? Hold on, we’re not done yet.

In 2011, the FDA made a statement of its own:

Following this idiotic change of mind on the part of the FDA, Conceptus issued another statement (with the knowledge that women would still have allergic reactions):

There’s the cut. Essure was knowingly marketed to OB/GYNs who then marketed it to their trusting patients. Forget helping people! Where’s the profit in that?

One of the women in today’s video found that she had a nickel allergy when her mother told her. None of these women were tested for a nickel allergy prior to implantation. It was never even mentioned to them as a possibility. She told her doctor. Her doctor’s response: there’s not enough nickel in Essure to set it off. She got a second opinion.

That’s where this story takes a turn for the hopeful. The second doctor’s response: you’ve got a nickel allergy and we need to get those coils out of you now!

Over the last two weeks, I’ve heard from a number of readers who either didn’t know removal was an option or if they did know, they couldn’t find a doctor who would believe them and remove the coils. I’ve told them what I know about removal and referred them to the Essure Problems Facebook page and also to the group’s website, Essureproblems.webs.com, where there is good information on removal.

If I know of a doctor in their area who handles Essure removals, I’ll give them that information, too. That’s the hopeful part of today’s post. Dr. Steven McCarus, giver of the second opinion, is one such doctor. I will say two things upfront:

  1. His typical method of Essure removal is the removal of the patient’s fallopian tubes (hysterectomy). If this isn’t for you, you may not want to call him. I’ve seen varied opinions on types of removal and Dr. McCarus’ is that hysterectomy is the only way.
  2. I get no compensation for mentioning Dr. McCarus or his practice.

That said, if you are in the Celebration or Winter Park, Florida area and need a doctor who handles Essure removals, his website is:

http://www.mccarusgyn.com/

If you are a patient of his and have information you’d like to share on his practice, I’d love to hear what you have to say.

As always, if you are a victim of Essure, remember that you are not alone. There are over 24,000 E-Sisters standing beside you. There is even a Facebook group for the men who support you, the Mad Men of Essure.

Together, we have a voice that will not be silenced. We will be heard and we will get results.
