After months of delay, actor Jim Carrey will give a sworn deposition in court next week where he will “be forced to answer questions about his late girlfriend, Cathriona White, and her suicide.” He will appear in Los Angeles Superior Court in relation to the wrongful death lawsuit filed against him by his late girlfriend’s estranged husband and mother.


Wrongful Death Lawsuit Filed By Father of Las Vegas Shooting Victim

By now, many are aware of the tragic shooting that occurred in Las Vegas earlier this month that claimed nearly 6o lives and injured many more. Now that the dust is settling and investigations continue to unfold, some relatives of the victims are beginning to file wrongful death lawsuits against Mandalay Bay Casino and Resort and others. For example, the father of Andrea Castilla, a 28-year-old native of Huntington Beach that was one of the people tragically killed at the Route 91 Harvest Festival, has filed a “wrongful death lawsuit against the operators of the Mandalay Bay Casino and Resort, Live Nation and the manufacturer of bump stocks.”


Kids Preferred Toy Company Issues Voluntary Recall of 587,000 Plush Toys

It’s hard to imagine that the holidays are nearly upon us. For many parents, that means it’s almost time for Christmas shopping. However, because toy recalls occur frequently, it’s important for parents to be aware of what toys are and are not safe for their little ones. A quick glance at the news or Consumer Product Safety Commission’s website is a good way to find information about any current recalls, such as the one recently issued by Kids Preferred Toy Company. Yesterday the toy company recalled “more than 587,000 children’s toys…because of a wind-up attachment that could pose a choking hazard.”


Oil Company Agrees to $1.8M Lawsuit Over Overtime Dispute

A Canadian oil and gas company has agreed to settle a lawsuit with workers working in Colorado. In a lawsuit filed against the company, Ensign Energy Services, the workers claimed they were “denied overtime pay because of the way they were compensated.” The lawsuit itself settled for $2 million and was approved by a “federal judge in Denver.”


Honest Company Files Trademark Lawsuit Against Hemp Line

Jessica Alba’s Honest Company is back in the news. This time, instead of being sued by angry customers, the company has decided to file a lawsuit of its own. Against who, though? Well, it turns out there is another company out there offering natural products, particularly hemp products, and the Honest Company claims it is “trying to bogart Alba’s trademark.” The company in question is Honest Herbal, and the lawsuit against it was filed in federal court in California late last month.

As parents, we can never be too careful about the products we use with or around our children. From cribs and strollers to baby gates and car seats, there are so many products on the market nowadays to help keep children safe. The last thing any parent would expect is for one of these products to malfunction or pose a safety hazard. Alas, safety recalls are more common than many realize, and just recently one was issued for a popular car-seat manufactured by “Diono, formerly known as Sunshine Kids Juvenile.”


Gender and Pay Discrimination Prompts Another Lawsuit

Fox News and CNN aren’t the only news outlets under fire for discriminating against employees. Yesterday, four female employees of the Detroit Free Press filed a gender discrimination lawsuit against the newspaper and Gannet Co., it’s owner, alleging “they have systematically received lower pay than their similarly situated male peers.” Additionally, it also alleges that Gannet Co. and the Free Press “violated the federal Equal Pay Act and the state civil rights law, which bars gender discrimination, by disparately compensating women while they do equal work with the same skills as comparable men.”


After Tragic Death, Family Files Wrongful Death Against Columbus Police Department

After spending time in police custody in Columbus, Ohio, a father of three passed away, prompting his family to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the police division. At the moment the lawsuit is “alleging that excessive police force contributed to his death,” and is “seeking more than $2 million.” But what happened? Most people don’t die after being kept in police custody.


$5.9M Settlement Awarded to Widow of Worker Killed in 2011 Truck Accident

It’s never easy losing a loved one, especially when it’s sudden and unexpected. Unfortunately for one woman, she had to experience the heartache of losing her husband in a tragic work accident. However, instead of getting lost in her grief, she filed a wrongful death lawsuit against her husband’s employer. Now, years after her husband’s death, Mary Kriete-Green of Fontana, Wisconsin has agreed to “a nearly $6 million payment from the companies involved in the death.”


State of Missouri Under Fire in Latest Workplace Discrimination Lawsuit

A mental health hospital in Fulton, Missouri, as well as the state of Missouri, is under fire in a new lawsuit alleging workplace discrimination. According to the lawsuit filed by Jerome Morgan, a Jamaican native and employee at the mental hospital, “he was assigned to tougher jobs and called racist names because he is black.” At the moment, he is seeking $25,000 in damages. However, Morgan’s case is only one in a series of many discrimination cases “brought by state workers, including a recent decision that could award $2 million to a female employee of the Missouri Department of Corrections.”
