Lawsuits Begin Pouring in Over Massive Equifax Data Breach

Since the massive Equifax data breach that compromised sensitive personal information of 143 million Americans, more than 30 class action lawsuits have been filed against the credit reporting company. An estimated 25 of those lawsuits were filed as of Sunday in federal courts across the country, and at least one lawsuit is accusing Equifax of securities fraud. Even on Monday lawsuits against Equifax continued to pour in, and it’s expected that many of them will be “combined into a single, nationwide case.”


FBI Now Investigating Utah Cop Who Arrested Nurse Alex Wubbels

If you’ve been following the story about the detective that aggressively arrested a nurse in Utah, Alex Wubbels, then you probably know that there have been a lot of developments since that unfortunate day back in late July. Not only has the detective, Jeff Payne, been suspended from the blood draw unit with the Salt Lake City Police Department, but he’s also being investigated by state authorities and was fired from his second job as a paramedic with Gold Cross Ambulance. Now, it looks like the FBI is stepping in to examine whether or not Payne violated any federal laws when he assaulted and arrested Wubbels.


Wrongful Death Lawsuit Filed Against the Boy Scouts of America

For many parents, the thought of losing a child is almost too much to bear. Unfortunately for two parents in Texas, John and Copper Comita, they’ve had to face every parent’s worst nightmare and filed a wrongful death lawsuit as a result. Their lawsuit was filed against the Boy Scouts of America after their son, 15-year-old boy scout Reid Comita, died from heatstroke during a mountain hike in Texas. The lawsuit was filed because they believe the organization was responsible for their son’s death.


143M Consumers Potentially Impacted By Equifax Data Breach

An alarming cyber security attack on Equifax has compromised personal information of an estimated 143 million people across the United States. To put that number into perspective, that’s nearly half of the country’s population. According to reports from Equifax, “cyber criminals have accessed sensitive information such as names, social security numbers, birth dates, addresses, and the numbers of some driver’s licenses.”


CPSC, Ameriwood Home Recalls 1.6M Chests Due to Entrapment Hazards

Mainstays is a popular furniture brand, and many Americans have some sort of furniture piece from the brand in their homes. Unfortunately, a voluntary recall has just been issued for the four-drawer chests from Ameriwood Home amid concerns “about their stability and entrapment hazards.” According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the chests “are unstable if not anchored to the wall, posing serious tip-over and entrapment hazards that can result in death or injuries to children.”


$25M Wrongful Death Lawsuit Filed in Adrian Jones Murder Case

After suffering a life filled with abuse at the hands of people who were supposed to love and care for him, 7-year-old Adrian Jones was brutally murdered. To hide the crime, his body was fed to pigs. Now the boy’s biological mother and her family have filed a $25 million lawsuit against the parties they claim failed to protect the child, including “social workers, therapists, agencies, and hospitals” that the lawsuit called “disinterested bystanders.”


Detective Who Arrested Utah Nurse Loses Paramedic Job

New developments have transpired regarding the detective that aggressively arrested Salt Lake City nurse, Alex Wubbels, for following the law and protecting her unconscious patient. For those who don’t know, after a video went viral showing Detective Jeff Payne aggressively arresting and dragging Wubbles from a hospital, Payne was “put on paid leave by the Salt Lake City Police Department.” Now, according to the Associated Press, Payne has “been fired from his part-time job as a paramedic” with Gold Cross Ambulance. Additionally, the hospital staff has “banned law enforcement officials from interacting directly with its nurses.”


Wrongful Death Lawsuit Filed in Fatal Sunnyvale Construction Site Accident

An accident at a Sunnyvale construction site has prompted a wrongful death lawsuit against “Level 10 Construction, two subcontractors, and the property owner” in charge of overseeing the site where a construction worker fell to his death. The lawsuit itself was filed by the man’s wife, Irma Vargas, in Santa Clara County Superior Court, and is seeking damages for “emotional distress, wrongful death, negligent survival and premises liability from Level 10 Construction, Webcor Builders, Alamillo Rebar Inc. and Central Wolfe LLC.”


Handi-Craft Company Recalls 23,000 Bottles of Natural Bottle and Dish Soap

When parents invest in products designed to keep their children safe, they do so with the expectation that those products will actually work. Unfortunately, that’s not always to case. For example, Handi-Craft just issued a recall of “23,000 bottles of Dr. Brown’s Natural Bottle & Dish Soap” because it might contain bacteria that is harmful to children. According to the recall notice, exposure to the harmful bacteria “poses a risk of respiratory and other infections in immunocompromised individuals.”
