Aside from facing legal action from the McKinney Housing Authority, Providence Village has also been charged with discrimination following a years-long investigation by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The Democratic National Committee had initially sought an injunction against the order’s enforcement. However, in earlier hearings, U.S. District Judge Amir Ali noted that the FEC itself told the court that it would not comply with any presidential requests limiting its autonomy.
In court documents, the Department of Justice provided no explanation for the dismissal.
“Imagine the terror going on in those kids’ minds,” attorney Fred Dorr said. “And then you turn to the jury and you say, ‘What’s that worth, to watch your child die like that?’”
Strickland, who weighed about 334 pounds at the time of the incident—several dozen pounds over Blizzard Beach’s weight limit—claims that he was ejected from his Disney inner tube as a result of the ride’s “exhilarating speeds.”
The SEC did not provide a detailed explanation for its about-face, but indicated that the Trump administration made a calculated decision to cease litigation.
In court documents, Perlmutter and her attorneys asked the court to issue a temporary restraining order prohibiting Trump administration appointees from interfering with the Library of Congress and its operations.
“After careful consideration, PBS reached the conclusion that it was necessary to take legal action to safeguard public television’s editorial independence, and to protect the autonomy of PBS member stations,” a PBS spokesperson said in a statement.
NPR’s lawsuit reiterates a common-sense argument: that the Trump administration is less concerned with enforcing real rules, regulations, and statutes than it is with lashing out against media outlets perceived as hostile.
“The Constitution, and the Appointments Clause, are not mere roadblocks for this administration to ignore,” Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said. “I look forward to continuing this case in court.”
