Choking Hazard Prompts Recall of Hallmark Plush Baby Toy

— September 4, 2017

It seems as if there has been a lot of recalls lately. From frozen foods and ATVs to cars and toys, it can be hard to keep up with what’s safe and what’s not. For parents, in particular, recalls can be a headache, especially when they involve popular toys. Earlier today, Hallmark issued a recall for “baby plush stacking toys” over concerns that the toy can pose a choking hazard.

It seems as if there has been a lot of recalls lately. From frozen foods and ATVs to cars and toys, it can be hard to keep up with what’s safe and what’s not. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the “fabric hats and bows on the Disney-licensed itty bittys toys can detach.” So how can parents tell if they have one of the recalled toys? Well, according to the recall notice, they “are about 10 inches by 7.5 inches by 9.5 inches and have a yellow base stand with a post and four rattling rings that slide on and off.” Additionally, “the red, blue, pink and purple rings also have Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck and Daisy Duck characters attached to them.” They were sold at “Hallmark Gold Crown stores and online at Hallmark.com and Amazon.com from June 2016 through July 2017 for about $30.”

Fortunately, the company has only received “one report of the toy’s fabric bow detaching,” and there have been no reports of a child choking because of it. For now, the safety commission is urging parents to remove the toys from their homes and “contact Hallmark to receive a prepaid shipping label for returning the toy and for a $40 Hallmark Gold Crown gift card.”
