“I face serious challenges in meeting basic everyday expenses for food, shelter and transportation and in basic life skills necessary to function,” said former UFC interim heavyweight champion Shane Carwin. “This would truly be life-changing money for me and other members of the class.”
“Michael Cohen has exhausted every avenue of his pathetic attempt to drag my client into court time and time again,” Trump attorney Alina Habba said. “As expected, the Supreme Court has correctly denied Michael Cohen’s petition and he must finally abandon his frivolous and desperate claims.”
The settlement marked the largest of its kind in U.S. history for claims of clergy abuse.
“The underlying constitutional question this case raises has become the focus of intense public debate: How should the government balance the rights of transgender individuals to be free from discrimination in places of public accommodation with the rights of religious business owners when they are operating in the public market?” Justice Melissa Hart wrote in the court’s majority opinion.
Under the settlement agreement, among other things, the City of Berkeley agreed to a new policy which provides remote attendance options for board members and commissioners with disabilities with no limit on the number of meetings a member may attend remotely.
An $8 million payout goes to each victim, making each the largest settlement paid out by LAUSD to an individual sex abuse victim.
“Alex Jones will no longer own or control the company he built,” attorney Christopher Mattei said in a statement. “This brings the [Sandy Hook] families closer to their goal of holding him accountable for the harm he has caused.”
“It’s all about public safety,” said Nassau County legislator Mazi Pilip, the bill’s conservative sponsor. “If people want to rally, that’s great. However, this idea that nobody is going to recognize my face, and I’m going to break the law and hurt people—that’s not going to be acceptable.”
“NBC must be held accountable for its abuse of power and betrayal of trust,” attorneys wrote in their initial claim. “Viewers and readers across the country turn to the media for the information they need to make decisions about their health and well-being.”
Each of the plaintiffs allegedly underwent “painful and invasive procedures for in vitro fertilization” at the Yale University Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility clinic in Orange, Connecticut. They were supposed to have received fentanyl in preparation for their procedure—but were instead given saline, a solution consisting of nothing more than salt and water.
