Walmart Recalls More than 246,000 Oz Trail Camp Axes Over Potential Defect

— October 9, 2018

Have you purchased a camp ax lately? If so, what store did you purchase it from? If you purchased your ax from Walmart, you may want to double check the brand name to make sure it’s not part of a major recall recently issued by the popular retailer. Earlier this month, Walmart issued a recall for more than 246,000 Oz Trail camp axes over concerns that the “ax head can detach from the handle, posing a serious risk for injury.”

According to the recall notice, affected axes were sold in stores and online between January 2017 and July 2018 for about $8 per axe. Additionally, the axes are about 14-inches in length from head to handle and weigh about 1.25 pounds. The model number 60111140 is printed on the product packaging, along with the words ‘Ozark Trail.’

So far the company has received two incident reports of “injuries associated with the detachments that resulted in minor cuts and abrasions.” At the moment, if you have one of the recalled axes, you should discontinue use and return it to your nearest Walmart store for a full refund.

If you have additional questions or concerns about the recall, contact Walmart at 800-925-6279. Additional information about the recall can also be found at the company’s website by clicking on the ‘Product Recall’ tab.
