As a result of the attack, she filed a lawsuit against the farm and even plans to sue the hospital where she was treated for medical malpractice.
Many people across the country work on farms on a daily basis. Many of them are tasked with feeding animals, like cows, chickens, and even donkeys. One would hardly think that feeding an animal like a donkey would turn into a dangerous task. Try telling that to Anna Maria Giacomi who, while feeding a donkey, ended up losing an arm and a leg. According to Georgia resident Giacomi, two years ago she was feeding a donkey while working on a commercial farm when the animal attacked her. As a result of the attack, she filed a lawsuit against the farm and even plans to sue the hospital where she was treated for medical malpractice.
But what happened exactly? How did Giacomi lose two limbs? Did she know the donkey? Why does she want to sue the hospital that treated her? Well, according to Giacomi, the donkey she had been feeding for more than five years just suddenly grabbed her wrist and started biting, chewing, and crunching her arm. From there, she was hospitalized and “ended up contracting the flesh-eating bacteria necrotizing fasciitis, which led to the double-amputation.”
“I woke up with no arm and no leg. It was hideous,” she said in response to waking up and noticing the double-amputation. But the double-amputation was just the beginning of her medical treatments. In fact, in only two months after the attack, she underwent 11 surgeries.
Fortunately for the woman, the settlement with the commercial farm has been settled for an undisclosed amount, and now she has her sights set on the hospital that treated her. Why? Well, she is alleging that her doctors “belatedly realized she had contracted” the flesh-eating bacteria.
Today, two years after the attack, Giacomi has moved to Miami, Florida to live with her son. In a statement to People, she said, “This is the worst thing that can happen, really, this situation of mine. I was a productive, independent woman taking care of myself and my animals, and then… reduced to what I am now.”
But what happened to the donkey that attacked her? According to Giacomi’s lawyer, they don’t “know what happened to the donkey, but it is no longer at the farm.”
