Settlement Reached Involving Wrongful Death of Developmentally Disabled Missouri Man

A settlement was reached in a case involving the wrongful death of a developmentally disabled Missouri man. Back in April 2017, the body of Carl DeBrodie was found “encased in concrete after he went missing from a supported living home.” The suit itself was filed by DeBrodie’s mother and sister-in-law and their attorney, Rudy Veit, said the details of the settlement are being kept confidential. However, Veit did reveal that it “provides enough money to care for DeBrodie’s mother, Carolyn Summers, and to allow her to make donations to organizations that helped DeBrodie during his lifetime.”

Wrongful Termination Lawsuit Filed by Emergency Room Doctor Ends in $29M Verdict

An emergency room doctor filed a wrongful termination lawsuit against the Overland Park Regional Medical Center after he was allegedly “fired for reporting understaffing” at the hospital. Fortunately for the doctor, Raymond Brovont, a Jackson County jury sided with him and awarded him $29 million.

JDS Tolleson Inc. Recalls Raw Beef Products Amid Salmonella Fears

JDS Tolleson Inc., a meat processing company, issued a recall earlier today for 6.5 million pounds of raw beef products. The products, sold under a variety of different brands, “may be contaminated with salmonella,” according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

New Lawsuit Accuses Facebook of Enabling Human Traffickers

Facebook is the target of a new lawsuit filed this week by a human trafficking survivor. According to the survivor from Texas, Facebook “provides human traffickers an unrestricted way to stalk, exploit, recruit, groom…and extort children into the sex trade.” The survivor, identified in the suit as ‘Jane Doe,’ filed the suit on Monday in Houston, Texas. In addition to accusing Facebook of enabling human traffickers, the lawsuit also names “Backpage.com and the owners of two Houston hotels” as defendants in the suit.

Whole Foods Voluntarily Recalls Tortilla Chips Over Undeclared Allergens

If you’re a fan of shopping at Whole Foods, this latest recall may interest you. Earlier this week the popular retailer issued a voluntary recall of 365 Everyday Value White Corn Tortilla Chips over concerns that the product may “contain undeclared milk that was not listed on the product label.” This is a serious matter considering the fact that many people across the country have allergies or severe sensitivities to milk. If these customers consume the mislabeled chips, they may run the risk of developing a “serious or life-threatening allergic reaction.”

Soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo is at the center of rape allegations filed by a Nevada woman who claims Ronaldo raped her back in 2009 and then “dispatched a team of ‘fixers’ to obstruct the criminal investigation and trick her into keeping quiet for $375,000.” The woman’s suit was filed after she requested police to reopen the criminal case last month. Earlier today, Las Vegas Police confirmed that they had indeed reopened the sexual assault case.

Two Dozen Cattlemen and Beef Suppliers Seek to Join Suit Against Kane Beef

About two dozen beef suppliers and cattlemen recently decided to join a federal Packers and Stockyards Act lawsuit filed by “livestock sellers that claim Kane Beef Processors LLC owes them millions of dollars.” It turns out, Kane Beef Processors LLC, based in Corpus Christi, has been paying $500,000 each month to settle with the cattlemen and beef suppliers, but new businesses have stepped forward arguing they have a “cause to join the case.”

Negligence Lawsuit Filed Against Unlicensed Pittsfield Township Daycare After Toddler Drowning

If you’re a parent with a child in daycare, chances are you have a level of expectation that your child will be well cared for while you’re away. Unfortunately, accidents happen, and sometimes those accidents result in lawsuits. For example, the family of a toddler who drowned back on October 16, 2016, at an unlicensed Pittsfield Township daycare filed a lawsuit yesterday against “a number of people connected to the property.” The toddler was 22-month-old Annie Mae Flynn.

Boy Scouts of America Issues Voluntary Recall of 110,000 Neckerchief Slides

Earlier this week, the Boy Scouts of America issued a recall of an estimated 110,000 neckerchief slides “that have been found to contain dangerous levels of lead.” The recall was posted on the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s (CPSC) website on Wednesday, and claim the four models of the recalled neckerchief slides “have been shown to contain levels of lead that exceed the federal lead content ban within the slides’ colored enamel.”

Lawsuit Accuses Torrance Unified School Officials of Ignoring Autistic Student’s Sexual Abuse

Three middle school officials in the Torrance Unified School District are under fire in a new lawsuit filed against the district claiming the officials “failed to follow up on allegations of sexual abuse by a group of male pupils against an autistic female student.” The suit itself was filed in Los Angeles Superior Court and alleges that “Calle Mayor Middle School principal David Mosley, assistant principal James Ashikawa and special education teacher William Kealey violated state law” when they failed to file a police report of suspected child abuse.
