“He had just a short period of time before this [he had] been told by a Connecticut judge that he was unfit to have custody of his own child because he was a risk to that child, so this is a very preventable tragedy,” attorney Kelly Reardon said in a statement.
Less than a day later, a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement supervisor ordered the plaintiff’s release, realizing that he was a documented immigrant with every right to reside and work in the United States.
“The crash of American Eagle 5342 was predictable, it was preventable and caused the needless loss of 67 lives on that fateful evening,” said attorney Bob Clifford, who is representing the families involved in the lawsuit.
The Wall Street Journal’s legal team also risked raising the president’s ire by stating the obvious: the letter, as depicted by the press, is “consistent with [Trump’s] reputation,” citing comments the commander-in-chief has previously made about his relationship with Epstein and his views on women.

The court, aside from denying the federal government’s motion to dismiss the multistate lawsuit, also extended the timeline of the injunction. Bonta’s office has since cast the decision as yet another win for his office, which has challenged many of the Trump administration’s unprecedented attacks on states rights.
“They’ve had a hard slog,” an attorney for the two plaintiffs said. “They would really like to get some sense that they’ve been heard and that the injustices they’ve suffered are recognized.”
“Ms. Comey’s termination – without case, without advance notice, and without any opportunity to contest it – was unlawful and unconstitutional,” Comey’s lawsuit alleges. “In truth, there is no legitimate explanation. Rather, Defendants fired Ms. Comey solely or substantially because her father is former FBI Director James B. Comey, or because of her perceived political affiliation and beliefs, or both.”
