A Florida family filed legal claims against NASA after a piece of debris jettisoned from the International Space Station crashed through the roof of their Naples home. “The investigation uncovered reason to believe named defendants are violating or are about to violate the law and that a proceeding is in the public interest,” the F.T.C. said in a statement, adding that it has referred the case for prosecution by the Department of Justice.
“At least as a matter of pleading, these allegations are sufficient to allege conduct that shocks the conscience,” U.S. Magistrate Judge Joseph Spero wrote.
“We’re addressing the impacts of climate change today, and needless to say, this is a priority because we know now that climate change is here,” Hawaii Gov. Josh Green said in a statement announcing the lawsuit. “It is not something that we’re considering in an abstract way.”
“We have to fight back against a rogue prosecutor who is trying to take a presidential candidate off the campaign trail,” Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey said. “It sabotages Missourians’ right to a free and fair election.”
One of the two lawsuits was filed on behalf of Jeffrey Spyrka, a 36-year-old father of three who fell an estimated eight stories after strong winds dislodged his scaffolding.
“As a matter of politics, this new legislation might be defensible,” U.S. District Judge Stephen Locher wrote in his ruling. “As a matter of constitutional law, it is not.”

“These kits essentially offer false promises to consumers by misleading them to think evidence collected privately at home can result in a criminal conviction—that is yet to have happened anywhere with the use of these kits,” Pennsylvania Attorney General Michelle Henry said in a statement.
“Arjuna has eliminated any case or controversy between the Parties here,” U.S. District Judge Mark Pittman wrote. “Exxon’s claim is moot and must be dismissed without prejudice.”
