Butte County recently decided to settle a lawsuit filed by Michael Sears, a former deputy with the Butte County Sheriff’s department. Sears originally filed his lawsuit against the department and county after he allegedly experienced workplace discrimination, harassment, and retaliation over his race. The suit settled for $645,000 and will be paid to Sears and the law firm that represented him, Mastagni Holstedt, APC.
A recall was issued late Saturday for nearly 100,000 pounds of bulk raw ground beef from a JBS USA Swift Beef facility in Utah over concerns of potential E. coli contamination. According to the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), the recalled product was distributed to retailers throughout “at least five states,” including Utah, Washington, Oregon, California, and Nevada.
If you have an Eddie Bauer infant carrier, listen up. Earlier this week, Gold Inc. issued a recall for Eddie Bauer fabric infant carriers over concerns that the buckles on the carriers may break, “posing a fall hazard to children.” According to the recall notice, the recalled carriers were sold nationwide at Target stores and online for $70 between December 2017 and August 2018.
More than 500,000 water heaters were recently recalled after officials determined that “their gas burner screens can develop tears, posing a fire hazard.” According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the recall includes about “616,000 A. O. Smith Ultra-Low NOx water heaters.” The faulty water heaters were manufactured between April 8, 2011, and August 1, 2016.
A voluntary recall was recently issued by Natural Life Pet Products and Nutrisca after it was discovered that their dry dog food products contain too much vitamin D. When dog food contains too much vitamin D, it may result in vitamin D toxicity.
If you’re a fan of making cakes from boxed cake mixes, this latest recall is for you. Earlier this week, Conagra Brands, the company that makes and sells Duncan Hines products, issued a recall of certain cake mixes over concerns they may be contaminated with salmonella. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Conagra Brands decided to issue the recall shortly after a retail sample of Duncan Hines Classic White cake mix tested positive for salmonella. The company is concerned that the cake mix “may be linked to a salmonella outbreak under currently under investigation by the CDC and the FDA.”
A voluntary recall was recently issued by J&J Snack Foods Handheld Corp. Based in Holly Ridge, North Carolina, the company’s recall includes “two lots of Fit & Active Southwest Veggie Stuffed Sandwiches” over concerns that the products may be contaminated with Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes.
If you’re a fan of Red Square Foods, Inc. products, this recall is for you. Earlier this weekend, the Somerset, New Jersey company issued a recall of an “undetermined amount of various frozen meat and poultry ravioli and blintzes products” over concerns that some of the products may be mislabeled or contain undeclared allergens. The recall was announced by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) which noted that the recalled products “contain eggs, milk, and/or wheat, all known allergens, which are not declared on the product label.”
Ruiz Food Products Inc., based in Denison, Texas, recently issued a recall for more than 2,490,593 pounds of ready-to-eat poultry and meat taquitos over concerns the products may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes and Salmonella. The recalled taquitos were produced between July 1 through October 10, 2018.
Earlier this week, officials with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a recall alert for an estimated 1.4 million “pressure-assisted flushing systems manufactured between 1996 and 2013 after nearly 1,500 of the systems burst in toilet tanks.” So far, the incidents of exploding toilets have resulted in 23 injuries and nearly $710,000 in damages. In one case, the unsuspecting victim was injured so severely they had to undergo foot surgery.
