In addition to its recent Simple Truth dry roasted macadamia nut recall amid listeria concerns, Kroger Co. has now issued a widespread recall of “a certain food item because it could pose a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction in some consumers.”
Yet another recall notice has been issued due to a potential choking hazard, this time involving Douglas Plush Toys, a popular children’s toy. So far the recall notice includes about 25,000 of the toys, according to the U.S. Consumer Safety Commission. More specifically, the recall includes three different versions of the plush toy, including Chewie the English Bulldog, Oliver the Bear and Charlotte the Fox “sold at specialty toy and gift stores nationwide from July 2014 to April 2017.” The toys have also been distributed “by United Healthcare Children’s Foundation to individuals and organizations.”
Fans of Simple Truth macadamia nuts are in for a shortage for the time being, at least in three states. Recently The Kroger Co. issued a recall of their Simple Truth brand macadamia nuts from a number of different retailers over concerns that they may have been contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
There have been new developments in the Trump University lawsuit. In response to Sherri B. Simpson, “who is appealing the [approved] settlement,” attorney’s “representing thousands of class members in the lawsuits” are now asking Simpson to “post a $220,833 bond.” The reason for the bond is to “protect the class members against the risk of non-payment should” Simpson lose her appeal, and will also cover things like “court, attorney, administrative and class-servicing costs,” according to a motion filed by attorney Rachel Jensen.
After being sued and accused of sexual harassment and breach of contract, Shaun White has finally reached a settlement with his accuser. Who accused him of such charges? Turns out it was the former drummer of his rock band, Lena Zawaideh. According to the lawsuit, Zawaideh was the “only female member of Bad Things, a young electronic rock band founded by White, 30, who also performed as the band’s guitarist.” So far the settlement terms haven’t been disclosed.
Graco Children’s Products Inc. just issued a recall of nearly 25,000 car seats. Why? Well, according to a release issued by the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA), “the webbing that holds a child in place may not adequately restrain the child in an accident.”
Losing a loved one is always hard, but even more so when a life is lost in a tragic manner. Such was the reality for the family of 27-year-old Jack Jacquez “who was fatally shot in the back by an on-duty officer” in front of his mother. As a result of his tragic death, his family filed a lawsuit against the now ex-officer, the city of Rocky Ford, and former Chief Frank Gallegos. Fortunately for the family, the lawsuit has now been settled with the city. The lawsuit itself sought “an unspecified amount of money for excessive force and violations of constitutional rights.”
A new recall has been issued, this time for two types of beef franks produced and sold by John Morrell and Co., a Cincinnati, Ohio-based company. So far nearly 210,606 pounds of ready-to-eat hot dog products have been recalled over concerns that they might be contaminated with “extraneous materials, specifically metal,” according to the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

Remember that big data breach at Target stores across the country back in 2013? It compromised “tens of millions of customers’ credit and debit card information.” Now, years later, Target Corp. has agreed to pay “$18.5 million to 47 states, including California, and the District of Columbia” as part of a settlement over the data breach. The only states not included in the settlement are Alabama, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
